Project Description
DEVELOPMENT PLANNING
STAG HILL, GUILDFORD
- A sensitive 3.5h site for 134 new market and affordable homes on land forming part of the grade II * listed Guildford Cathedral with phase 2 development relating to completion of the original inter-war Maufe Cathedral masterplan vision.
- Promoting the case for a change from private open space with public access to high density housing requiring sensitive discussions with Guildford Borough Council, The Cathedral Fabric Commission for England, Historic England, Highways Agency and a range of highly vocal local stakeholder groups.
- Extensive planning based negotiations leading to acceptance of new housing as enabling development in an extremely sensitive location requiring a dynamic approach to key issue justification, viability, visual impact and a range of other local, regional and nationally significant issues.
- The development of a planning case that will secure the long term financial security of Guildford Cathedral alongside the provision of key worker accommodation for Cathedral staff and general affordable housing.
“The Guildford 2020 strategy provides a frame-work for an extensive programme of investment which will enable us to establish a strong new physical link with the town and realise the original vision for the Cathedral’s surroundings which included landscaped grounds, housing and buildings for community use.” Rev Diana G Williams.
